Instagram Challenge Showcase - Face Collage

For the first time I issued a challenge on Instagram. The rough guidelines for the challenge were to take various parts of different images and combine them into a face. There was a wide range of entries and some very inspiring and unique interpretations of the concept. Those that participated commented that they enjoyed the challenge of approaching a project outside of their normal workflow.

Are you interested in more challenges like this? Let me know in the comments.

Here are just a few of the works submitted.  Below the image is their Instagram username in case you want to check out their IG gallery!

  7. Oh I was afraid to write as big as a blog and now I don't know anymore lol. I should have written it right away. liked the challenge because you got to see other people I never saw on ig, you can find other apps or the way of editing so you could try and learn. I tend to use the same apps, so I used this challenge to get myself out of a rut

  8. I write here further. I often have trouble writing. Suddenly I can't write anymore.

  9. And again. Grrr, what am I doing wrong. To go further. I hope the tag stays, if you planning to a new subject of the challenge. I was thinking too, this is what I miss on Ig, we talked about it a while back. That most creative pages it most for those surreal pictures, I guess images that they take of these stock pages. I like to use my own and to see more grunge images, I guess, I don't know how to name them.

  10. I like the idea of the challenges..... it is inspiring and also great way to learn about apps I am not familiar with and also see them being used by other artists!! I hope to have time this week to do your next challenge!! Looking forward to more of these!

  13. This was such a fun challenge. I'm so impressed by the creativity of people. =) How are you? Hoping all is well

  14. Eitan - Creative Blur is right up your alley - I've seen you use it before.

  15. Thanks David - It's always fun to see people's take on a theme. Hope you can try the Creative Blur challenge

  16. I agree - challenges keep us thinking of new ways to create. I loved seeing your pieces.

  17. Yes, I like to use my own images too. I'm hoping most people do that rather than using stock images because this is all about mobile photography. But since it's just for fun, I won't be checking to see if everyone is using their original work. It's more for a creative boost. I'm not sure what style you are talking about except maybe Grunge is a good description.

  18. I am good, thanks for asking Geri. Super busy, now that school has begun. My first semester back, it's been eons. I am trying to get organized so I can balance school, work, and social media. :) It's great seeing you on FB now, that was how I found this post.

  19. Yes,I have :)
I use mainly "AfterFocus", which is great for selective blur. As I haven't been shooting lately, I'll add the tag to some of my past posts :)

  20. Yes ! Totally interested. I missed this one but will still do it. Having challenges can spark creative inertia. This selection is spot on!

  21. I really thought this would be a one-off deal, but I got such a great response and the images were so creative that I am definitely going to keep doing them. Not sure if I will be able to keep up with one a week but at least two a month (fingers crossed)

  22. Yes AfterFocus is a great app. Why haven't you been shooting lately?

  23. Hi Geri, I just am reading this! and thought yesterday when I wrote on your blog that ones a month is even good too. and I saw what you wrote on FB. That not only balNcing social media and real life is important, but when you are on the social world that chatting with your online friends is important too. Because socializing is the most fun with like minded people ;) So I understand in what you said on FB and can't manage that much challenges.hope I don't come across as I am butting in.

  24. Oh Geri, you do already so much. And I think me and most have an eye for that if it is taken with mobile phone or not. I haven't notice them in this tag. And mentioning this was more that I miss those grungy style, not if they are real or not. Gosh I wish my English was better so I could express myself better, so there will be no misunderstandings ;)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Can you attach a photo to show me what kind of style you mean?

    ReplyDelete
  26. You are not butting in at all. Yes balance is very important to me and so I will be cutting back on Facebook =)

  27. Just when you found me I deleted the Art of Mob page and Mob Paint Group - it was all too much, but I still have my FB profile and will be posting blog posts there

    ReplyDelete
  28. I can explain it in words, most you see in the tag itself, most of my pictures, muzbanger, nicobrons and most of an old page as ig_artgallery.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I would definitely call that an abstract grunge style

    ReplyDelete
  30. Oh that's a quick reply. Glad we figure it out lol xD

  31. Ok I don't know how I missed this! Thanks for including not 1 but 3 of my face collages. It was a fun challenge and allowed me to stretch my iphoneography wings a bit. So many incredibly creative images on this list.

  32. I couldn't decide on only one! Lovely entries Kristen - I really loved this challenge and the unique work!
