Featured Mobile Artist Wojtek Papaj

I never run out of talented people to interview from the mobile photography community. Today I present my interview with Wojtek Papaj. I believe Wojtek is the first Windows Phone user I've interviewed.

© Wojtek Papaj
What is your name and where do you live?
WP:  My name is Wojtek Papaj. I live in Nowy Sącz - a small town in the deep south of Poland. This is a great country of mountains, woods, meadows and orchards.

How did you get started with mobile photography? What device do you use?
WP:  Photography attracted me for many years - I tried it with various cameras, even with SLR, but I've always had too little time - for photo walks, for editing etc. Just with my first smartphone - Samsung Wave, I realized that mobile photography is just what I was looking for. And with Nokia Lumia 800 the adventure started in full.

Create Time Lapse Videos with Hyperlapse from Instagram

Instagram just released a new app, Hyperlapse from Instagram that lets you create time lapse videos easily without a tripod or any expensive equipment. I can't wait to take this hiking with me and see how it all turns out. There are all sorts of possibilities. I'll be at a wedding next month too and would love to shoot some footage there as well. The hyperlapse can be adjusted to 1x, 2x, 4x, 6x, 8x, 10x and 12x. There is automatic stabilizations that works well to prevent bumpiness in the video.

"Contrived photo shoots and intricately designed set-ups have never interested me, rather it is the uncertainty of street photography that continues to stimulate. The idea that I can leave the house one morning and come home at the end of the day with a photo that will be with me forever constantly drives and excites me." Jesse Marlow

Join us on Flickr in the Mob Street Group and submit your favorite mobile street photograph each week for a chance to be featured. Thanks to all the contributing members!

Comparing My Lenses - SquidCam, Olloclip, Moment

Besides being an app addict, I'm also an iPhone accessory addict. Hmmm....I own the Original Olloclip 3 in 1 ($49.99) and Telephoto/Polarizing Lens ($99.99), SquidCam 4 in 1 ($64.95) (generously provided by creator Charles!), iBlazr ($49.99 - honestly, I have never used this!), Hi Lo Lens ($69.95 great concept but I don't like the way it attaches to the iPhone), Anker Battery Charger ($36.99 - I have only used this when travelling - works great!), GorillaPod ($29.95 - thank you JOBY - love this!). I'm still waiting for COVR Photo ($55 - to do all my stealth street photography!)

Steller for Storytelling Gets a Major Update

Before I get to the official press release for the Steller update, just a word on the name. A few people told me after I had mentioned the app that they couldn't find it in the App Store. Make a note that the name is a play on the word storyteller, so it's not spelled the same as the adjective "stellar", it's spelled like "teller" with an "s" at the beginning. S-T-E-L-L-E-R.

When Steller was first released in March 2014, it was named Editor's Choice and Best New App on the Apple App Store! And with this latest update, it's bound to only keep growing in popularity.

I'd like to send out a thank you to Jay and Jordan who kindly gave me featured spots under  the CREATIVE category with my painterly tutorial "California Dreaming" and under DIY with my Do it Yourself Macro Lens tutorial.

Featured Mobile Artist - Pasi Räihä

Time for another featured mobile photographer - I hope when you're done reading about Pasi's work, you'll visit the Artist Gallery to read more about other talented artists featured in the past.

© Pasi Räihä
What is your name and where do you live?
PR:  My name is Pasi Räihä and I live in Helsinki, Finland.

How did you get started in mobile photography? What device do you use?
PR:  I bought my first iPhone in 2008 in the time when it was illegal in Finland. Well, it surely felt like that. Nokia phones were a religion in Finland those days. For me the Nokia sucked so I bought the iPhone and it really blew my mind. I almost immediately started experimenting with different types of apps, art forms and techniques. Currently I'm shooting with my third iPhone.

Steller is a Stellar Storytelling App!

I recently created a profile using the Steller app and published my first story. The Steller format allows for combining your story to include text, imagery and videos using various layouts and fonts. Once you create your first story you can curate it to a Collection. Collections can include your own work or you can republish other works on Steller into a Collection (kind of like you do with a Pinterest Board). I've started one called Healthy Eats because I love the recipes I"m finding on Steller.

For my first story I decided to introduce myself and my love of creating painterly mobile art. Click on the image below to read the story on the web version of Steller

Once you sign-up for Steller through the app (free on The App Store) you can start creating your own stories and collections. Be sure to look for me (just search Geri Centonze) and follow and I will be happy to follow back to see your stories!

Continuing on with my theme of The Painterly Way, I published a full tutorial for creating "California Dreaming". Click on it to view the tutorial in Steller. You'll see how I turned a very ordinal image into this painterly one.

Steller is about to release the latest version next week. Stay tuned because I'll be back with a press release on that soon! Are you using Steller? If so, please let me know how you're liking it so far in the comments below.

Featured Mobile Artist - Natali Prosvetova

Continuing on with the featured photographer series, here is my most recent interview with the talented and beautiful Natali Prosvetova.

© Natali Prosvetova
What is your name and where do you live?
NP:  Hi! My name is Natali Prosvetova aka NaProsvet. I was born and currently live in Moscow, Russia.

How did you get started in mobile photography? What device do you use? Do you have a traditional photography or art background?

NP:  Being creatively inclined, I chose acting as a profession. Not surprisingly, photography has become one of my biggest passions. However, I don’t paint beautiful pictures and I’ve never studied fine arts or photography. I started shooting photos with my iPhone 2 in 2009 and I looked into traditional photography immediately after I discovered the fascinating world of iPhoneography. But, finally, I realized that, "Tomato and cucumber both are vegetables, but tomatoes are tomatoes and cucumbers are cucumbers, and I prefer just one of the two"

Well, in 2009 I was at a point in my life where I felt the need to look for happiness in small things and I began taking photos of things around me, which made my inner world. It started off as something that I did to kill time and it became a creative outlet. It was addictive and finally, it almost changed my life.

Currently I use the iPhone 5S and process my pics on an iPad.

Mob Street Tuesday No. 3

“I love the people I photograph. I mean, they’re my friends. I've never met most of them or I don’t know them at all, yet through my images I live with them.”
– Bruce Gilden

How well I relate to the above quote. I have photographed a few people in my town in California and then have noticed them at a different location on another day. They are instantly recognizable to me. Once they are on my camera roll, it's as if they become part of my life in a very inexplicable way...not friends, but no longer strangers. I feel tied to them through the connection I made through the lens. Have you had a similar experience? Please share in the comments.

Sleekmaus (Brent Mosley) – Photographic DJ – one who mixes and blends images much like a DJ mixes music. Always having been interested in sharing the surreal beauty with others through art and digital manipulation, I began doing this via a mobile device a little over 3 years ago with the vast array of apps on the iPhone. Using the device to creatively weave and mix images with the latest apps to deliver images that are truly out of this world.

EyeEm Adds Tap to Zoom

I still have a "presence" over at EyeEm, but I rarely upload or visit mainly due to lack of time. But the new update offers a great new feature and one I've just discovered.

First up is their new tap to zoom feature. You can't pinch to zoom like on your Camera Roll, but if you take into account you can't enlarge an Instagram photo at all, EyeEm's tap to zoom feature becomes more appealing.

From your profile page you can quickly access all of the various features including the Discover page, your Friends latest uploads and the EyeEm Missions.

Art of Mob Readers Get 20% Off Your Pixuru Order

I was thrilled to get an offer a few months ago to try Pixuru's (Pix-sue-roo) photo printing on wood. The image I chose was one of a fuschia flower. The results were better than I imagined - the image had a slightly warmer hue than the original and you could see a hint of the wood grain showing through the image. I love the results and decided to order four floral images in a matted/framed format. These too were of excellent quality and now proudly grace the walls of my home.

I love that Pixuru has an automatic warning built-into the ordering process. I tried to select a larger size for my square floral images and it said the images weren't suitable for enlarging to that size, so I ordered 12"x12" matted/framed prints. The overall size is 19" x 19" which makes for a lovely grouping in my office. The frame is made out of real wood and there is a toothed hanger on the back for easy display on your wall. The glass over the print is actually acrylic.
