Featured at Susan Tuttle Photography Tap-In Series

Susan Tuttle has long been an artist, photographer and author I admire so you can imagine my delight when she asked if I would like to be featured as part of her Tap-In series at Susan Tuttle Photography! Today the post went live and I am thoroughly delighted to see it online. Susan's questions made me examine why I create and what part creativity plays in my life. Please click on the image below to read the article. A special thank you to Susan - what a fabulous way to end my year!

Painterly Mobile Artist - Aylin Argun

Monday's Painterly Mobile Artist feature normally includes just one image that the artist has selected. This week I was sent two images by artist Aylin Argun for me to choose from. It was so hard to choose only one, so I decided to include both of them. You may know Aylin by her Instagram name @xxfromneptune.

Please visit the Painterly Mobile Art Flickr group to see more from Aylin and all of the artists! Do you like to edit in a painterly style? Please join the group, we'd love to have you!

Merry Christmas and Thank You

Just a quick note to all of my readers who will be celebrating Christmas tomorrow - I want to wish you a very Merry Christmas. For me the best part of this time of year is slowing down after the mad rush that takes up most of December. After all the shopping, baking, wrapping and decorating, one of my favorite things is to go to the movies on Christmas Day. Any suggestions for a film we should see?

Above photo was edited with Painteresque, Snapseed, Sketch Club and Tangled FX.

I also want to take this opportunity to thank all of the readers who visit Art of Mob and all of the artists who have allowed me to feature their work and words here. I wish each and everyone a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year!

Instashare - Better Than Dropbox?

Yesterday I listed Dropbox as one of my favorite apps. I use it nearly every day to transfer images from my iPhone to my iPad and from my iPad to my Mac Mini...that is until I discovered something that may work even better for me. It's called Instashare and it makes transferring images between my devices and my Mac as easy as dragging and dropping!

If you'd like to see it in action, check out the video below.

Instashare is available for Mac for $2.99. It's free for iOS devices (but you can upgrade to the no-ad version for $0.99) You will need to purchase the Mac app to allow transfers to your Mac. It's also available for Android and will be coming soon to Windows.

I will still be using Dropbox to share folders of images with family and friends but Instashare will now be my go-to app for sharing between devices.

Apps, Artists, Accessories and More Favorites for 2013

Okay, first the disclaimer! This in no way includes ALL of my favorites. This was just a fun exercise and you may want to play along. When you read the subtitles below, what comes to mind first? That's how I made my lists. If these lists were complete there would be MANY more in each category.

If you'd like to share some of your answers, I'd love to read them in the comments.

Painterly Mobile Artist - Jane Fiala

I met today's featured artist through her blog a few years ago. I was experimenting with Corel Painter and Photoshop and looking for tips to create painterly edits. That's when I discovered Jane Fiala's work via her blog. I abandoned Corel Painter to create with my iPhone and iPad. Jane has also jumped aboard the mobile photography train and has become one of my favorite painterly mobile artists.

Please visit the Painterly Mobile Art Flickr group to see more from Jane and all of the artists! Do you like to edit in a painterly style? Please join the group, we'd love to have you!

Photo Quality Check Giveaway - What's on Your Camera Roll?

Photo Quality Check
Photo Quality Check App
What method do you use for checking the quality of the images you snap with your iPhone? If you're like me, you just snap away and then later, you review your camera roll and pinch to zoom to check your images. What if there was an app that would allow you to shoot, tap to zoom to quickly inspect your image and save without ever switching screens or digging into your camera roll?

There is and it's called Photo Quality Check. With this app, you can shoot (either with the shutter button or the optional full screen shutter release mode. There's also a timer which can be set at 2, 5, 10 or 20 seconds. My favorite feature is the tap to zoom mode, which is the alternative to the pinch to zoom mode also available in the app. After you shoot an image inside Photo Quality Check app, simply tap the screen to zoom to 100% and check your image. If you like it, you can save it to your camera roll. You also have the ability to check the images already saved on your camera roll.

Sound like something you'd love to have? Keep reading to find out how to enter the GIVEAWAY!

iPhotographer Magazine Closing Down

If you subscribed to iPhotographer Magazine (as I did), you probably received a notice today that they will be closing business as of the end of October 2013. There was a detailed explanation in the email about why this step was taken.

I guess now the issue is will Apple refund subscribers partially for the remainder of the subscription not used. I don't know about you, but this makes me a bit hesitant to purchase subscriptions in the future. But I guess this is the chance you take when you take out a subscription to any service or publication.

I've written to Apple to request a refund. I'll be curious to hear their response.

Any thoughts? I'd love to hear them.

Customizing Tangled FX - Sharing One of My Secret Formulas!

Tangled FX is an interesting app that I use a lot. Several people have asked me about the settings I use. This post will show you the exact settings of one of my custom styles.

First of all it's important to note that when you load a photo into Tangled FX, your photo is shown in a "Preview" Size. To view how the actual finished photo will look you need to tap the Preview button at the top of the app and it will then switch to show the full resolution image with the style applied.

If you use the built-in preset styles you can take an image and get various results - a few are shown below:

I first heard about Richard Gray (@rugfoot on Instagram) from my friend Dilshad Corleone (@italianbrother on Instagram). Investigating the Abandoned with thelongsilence

I'm a big fan of reality shows especially ones that feature singers, dancers, etc. I have noticed a recurring theme. If the person auditioning thinks they're REALLY great, they usually aren't and those that have tremendous talent are normally very humble. Such is the case with the artist I interviewed for this feature. Richard, aka @thelongsilence on Instagram didn't believe me when I told him that HE was one of the reasons I started taking Instagram seriously as a platform for sharing photographic art. He was one of the first people I encountered who didn't take only selfies, food shots and pictures of feet! His gallery inspired me to have a second look at the potential of smartphone photography.

Please enjoy this very candid interview with a fabulous mobile photographer.

What's in a Name? Do you Title Your Images?

Although I love editing images, the difficult part for me comes when I try to think of a title. There is no hard and fast rule that says you have to title your work, but it does add something to an image, especially when you are submitting a piece for a possible inclusion in an exhibit.

My titles are usually boring, like "Portrait of a Man" or "Portrait of a Young Woman".  There are a few photographers I consider masters when it comes to titling an image and one is certainly the brilliant Susan Tuttle. I recently asked Susan if she had any suggestions for coming up with a title and she offered this advice, "Just close your eyes and wait patiently. Don't think. Then the words come."

Hmmm...I wondered if it would work, so I gave it a try with a few recent images and to my surprise, the words did come! Thank You, Susan!

Embracing Tuscany with Gianluca Ricoveri

© Gianluca Ricoveri
To view the work of Gianluca Ricoveri is a moving experience. I see his images and I want to be in them. I want to walk down those paths, be shadowed by the lofty trees and be enveloped by the countryside of Tuscany! I had the great honor of interviewing this very talented artist. His words are as elegant as his art - Enjoy!

© Gianluca Ricoveri

Geri:  Please share a bit about yourself before we begin.

Gianluca: I am 63 years old, I am retired and I live near Pisa in Tuscany. When I am not busy with iPhoneography, I paint, read and listen to music, even though the times I spend on these hobbies is less and less. Shooting and editing photos is taking more and more time.
